Universal Orlando Resort Wait Times for October 2022
Obviously, Universal Orlando Resort has experienced a tumultuous September.
The month ended with Hurricane Ian closing the parks for two days, followed by minimal operations on September 30th.
So, 10 percent of September’s park days suffered due to the weather event and its aftereffects.
Even now, nobody is quite sure about the short-term outlook for a pair of rides.
However, we won’t let the current chaos stop us from examining crowds during the past month.
Here are the Universal Studios wait times for October 2022.
Universal Studios Florida – The Big Three
As usual, three attractions matter the most at Universal Studios Florida. And before you ask, no! Revenge of the Mummy still hasn’t opened yet.
That ride may prove too accurately named. It’s either that or we’ll all be mummies by the time it returns.
With that roller coaster out of commission, we’re left talking about Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
The second-most popular Potter ride averaged a wait of 55 minutes this past month. If that sounds familiar, it should. It’s the same wait as last month.
This seems like a good time to mention that attraction wait times should be down. We’re comparing the months of September and August.
One of those months is much more popular at theme parks than the other, at least theoretically.
This September has come with some intrigue due to the lingering aftermath of COVID-19. The horribly named “revenge travel” is a thing.
Guests were stuck in their homes for multiple years and now want to go places. That may play a factor in this month’s wait times.
Second place goes to Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, which averaged a 39-minute wait. That’s four minutes less than last month.
Finally, Transformers: The Ride 3D averaged a 27-minute wait, which is a drop of one minute from last time.
Overall, the big three is slightly down, although not as much as I expected.
Also, if you’re paying attention, we have a different member of the big three this month. As you’re about to see, a roller coaster dropped significantly.
Universal Studios Florida – Everything Else
Here are the other wait times at Universal Studios Florida for the past month:
- Hogwarts Express – King’s Cross Station – 29 minutes, up 2
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – 26 minutes, down 13

- Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – 11 minutes, down 11
- Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster – 6 minutes, down 7
- Curious George Goes to Town – 5 minutes, down 1
Overall, guests waited an average of 24 minutes this past month. That’s six minutes or 20 percent less than during the summer.
So, Revenge Travel has its limits.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure
We will discuss what has happened in a bit. For now, here are the average waits at Islands of Adventure:

- Doom’s Fearfall – 7 minutes, down 4
- The Cat in the Hat – 6 minutes, down 3
- Caro-Seuss-el – 5 minutes, down 2
- One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish – 5 minutes, down 3
- Storm Force Accelatron – 5 minutes, down 3
Overall, guests waited an average of 22 minutes, a substantial drop from 28 minutes last month. So yes, the parks were less crowded.
Let’s Talk about Islands of Adventure Wait Times
We have another factor at play here, which is Halloween Horror Nights (HHN).
Universal closes the parks early for regular guests to make way for the ticketed event.
For this reason, the wait times we’re studying are a bit inflated. Generally, the parks clear out around dinner time.
During this timeframe, lines shrink to their smallest sizes all day. Universal isn’t getting that right now due to HHN.
So, I think it’s fair to take another three or four minutes off the average for each park.
Overall, we can still see the impact of the slow season on the parks. However, October should pick up as Halloween approaches.
HHN is arguably the strongest draw on the annual calendar at Universal Studios.
However, the lingering impact of Hurricane Ian could factor in here.
We don’t know the operational status of Jurassic Park Adventure or The Incredible Hulk Coaster at the time of publication.
And no, we still don’t know anything about Revenge of the Mummy either.
