Universal Studios Theme Park is Officially Coming to the UK
Universal Destinations and Experiences has received planning permission to build its first Universal Studios theme park in the United Kingdom.
The approval was granted through a Special Development Order issued by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, which allowed the project to proceed outside the standard local planning process.

The park will be built in Kempston Hardwick, near Bedford. It is expected to attract over eight million visitors per year and open as early as 2031.
Universal selected the location for its strong transport links, including nearby rail services and London Luton Airport.

Planning documents indicate that the rides will reach up to 377 feet, making them the tallest in Europe. Peak attendance could reach 55,000 guests per day, and the site will include parking for over 7,000 cars, coach and bicycle facilities, and a large entry plaza.
While ride details have not been confirmed, sources say the park may include themed attractions with James Bond, Paddington, and The Lord of the Rings.

Local leaders welcomed the news. Mohammad Yasin, MP for Bedford and Kempston, called it “a landmark moment for Bedford and the wider region” and said the impact “will be felt for decades to come.”
Universal estimates the project will create 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 permanent roles. Most positions are expected to go to local workers. Transport upgrades are planned, including rail expansion and new road links, as the project moves into its next phase.
