Wednesday Universal Orlando Resort Hurricane Ian Updates!
Good Morning Universal Orlando fans and friends! Our Orlando UniversalParksBlog team is bracing for the impacts of Hurricane Ian and plenty of vacationing Universal guests are doing the same. Especially those staying on property.
Universal Orlando officially announced closings yesterday for CItyWalk, Volcano Bay, Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios.

Important Hurricane Ian Updates
Time is quickly running out for residents to rush preparations to completion on the southwestern Florida peninsula as Hurricane #Ian nears.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Hurricane Ian approached Category 5 status with sustained winds of 155 mph this morning and id expected to move towards Orlando tonight.
At 9 a.m., the National Hurricane Center reported Ian’s center was located about 60 miles west of Naples and 70 miles southwest of Punta Gorda and 185 miles south-southwest of Orlando and gaining momentum.
Hurricane Updates for Universal Orlando Resort
Below is the most current info from the Universal Weather Updates Page due to Hurricane Ian:
- “Our destination, including CityWalk, will close on Wednesday, Sept. 28. We will remain closed Thursday and anticipate reopening on Friday, Sept. 30 as conditions permit.
- Our hotels are currently at full capacity and will remain operational as they focus on taking care of our guests.
- Our Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Florida will be canceled Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 29. We anticipate reopening the event on Friday, Sept. 30 conditions permitting. “
Vacation Challenges
Orlando International Airport is operating Wednesday morning but will stop commercial flights by 10:30 a.m. Many stranded travelers, vacationers, and locals have flooded the Universal hotels.
All guests are encouraged to shelter in place by this afternoon when Hurricane Ian is anticipated to hit.
