What to Know About Universal Orlando’s Cancellation Policy Ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia
Tropical Storm Idalia is heading for Florida in the next few days, and it’s expected to become a strong Hurricane. Right now, the storm is expected to become a Category 3.
Idalia should make landfall in Florida on Wednesday. It is not heading straight for Orlando as of right now, but it’s still important to remain aware as the storm could still affect the area.
If you have travel plans down to Universal Orlando Resort this week, you need to be aware of the severe weather policy.
Universal Orlando Hurricane Policy
According to Universal’s website, their hurricane policy is as follows:
In the event that a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center or a state of emergency is declared for the Orlando area or in your place of residence, within seven days of your arrival, you can contact our team in advance to reschedule or cancel your Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations Package, hotel room only accommodations and Universal Orlando theme park tickets booked directly with Universal Orlando, without any cancellation or change fees imposed. If you have purchased airline tickets as part of your Universal Parks and Resorts Vacations package, you may still be subject to cancellation and change fees assessed by those airlines.
If you have purchased Universal Orlando products and services through third-party suppliers, travel agents or tour operators please contact them directly for information regarding their cancellation or change policies and procedures. The policy does not apply to certain special events, dining experiences or group related bookings.
We want you to feel safe and will work with you directly to best accommodate your needs. If you have additional questions or need to change or cancel your travel plans, please contact a member of our Guest Contact Center team by calling 800-711-0080.
UPDATE: The policy should now be in effect since a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Orlando area.
Things can change very quickly though. If the policy does go into effect, you can contact Universal to cancel your trip or reschedule it and you won’t have any cancellation fees.
Do note that this needs to be done before your trip, you can’t do this after your trip has passed. And, you can’t book something after the policy has gone into effect and then cancel it.
Also, be aware that if you booked your trip through a third party like a travel agency, you must reach out to them to determine their cancellation policy and how they handle hurricanes.
As for Halloween Horror Nights, the same policy applies. The first event is this Friday, September 1st, and the storm should be gone by then. But, the cancellation policy would still apply if it goes into effect soon since it would be within seven days of your arrival.
If your trip is happening this week, it would be a good idea to keep a very close eye on the situation. Tropical Storm Idalia is expected to become a hurricane and make landfall in Florida by this Wednesday.
Do note that the Tampa International Airport is closing on Tuesday. Orlando International Airport has not announced any closures at this time, but that could change and flights might be canceled or delayed due to the storm.
