Boring Company Chosen for New Underground Transit Near Universal Orlando
Rumors have circulated for the past few months, and there is now official confirmation. A new high-tech transit option may soon transform how visitors move around Universal Orlando.
Local officials have selected Elon Musk’s The Boring Company to negotiate a multi-phase underground transportation system serving the special district around the resort.
The new transportation would be a game-changer for theme park transportation.

The 4–5-mile route is planned to roll out in stages, with the first phase focusing on Universal’s newest theme park.

Phase 1 would connect Epic Universe to nearby hotels, providing a direct, point-to-point link for guests.
Later phases are expected to extend service to Universal Studios Florida, CityWalk, and key spots along International Drive. This would be a great way to link guests to the major attractions and experiences in the area.
A future phase could also reach the Hard Rock Hotel and nearby retail areas, improving access for both tourists and locals.

The proposal centers on underground tunnels which is a tricky prospect in Florida’s challenging geology.
The state has challenges, including flooding and sinkholes, that must be carefully considered and managed.

District board members said they chose this concept over above-ground autonomous vehicle systems because it best fit their goal of an innovative, future-ready solution.
These negotiations are early and still in progress, and there is no confirmed construction timeline yet. If a final agreement cannot be reached, officials may reopen the project to new bidders.
