Join Us as We Sample a Little Bit of Everything at Minion Cafe
Our Universal Parks Bloggers are at the Minion Cafe this afternoon where we’re sampling a little bit of everything on the menu at the new Quick Service Spot. Let’s dive in and check out the new Minion Cafe menu options at Universal Studios Orlando.
First up on the Minion Cafe menu is the Mini Boss’ Mega Melt. This entree retails for $8.99.
The treat consists of a Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich done waffle-style.
Minion-shaped tater tots are served as a side dish and so is a banana (of course!)
Our MickeyBlogger Kayla said that the Pimento Grilled Cheese sandwich was “wonderful.”
Kayla said that the sandwich is big on flavors and the pimento cheese is enhanced with herbs and spices.
Overall, we give this treat a big thumbs up!
The pimento grilled cheese sandwich also makes an appearance as a side dish with the Honeymoon Soup.
Agnes’ Honeymoon Soup is a green tomato soup.
The soup is served with Crispy Pork Belly.
The Honeymoon Soup is also topped with a tomato gummy bear and basil oil.
The Honeymoon Soup retails for $14.99.
Kayla was a HUGE fan of the Honeymoon Soup. She said that the flavors were fantastic, the soup was rich and creamy and the crispy pork belly was a welcome addition. Unfortunately, by the time the Honeymoon Soup got to her table, the tomato-flavored Gummy Bear was melted but Kayla did say that it did have a hint of spice that suited the dish perfectly.
The next treat we tried was Mel’s Meatball Mountain
This Minion Cafe dish features a wood oven-baked stuffed pizza with meatballs.
The pizza is topped with fresh mozzarella, marinara, and basil.
Mel’s Meatball Mountain retails for $14.99.
Kayla said that when it comes to “theme park pizza,” Mel’s Meatball Mountain was pretty good. She did find the menu description slightly misleading saying it’s essentially a meatball calzone! However, she did say that you get a great portion size and that the treat is really filling. She said the tomato sauce has a bit of spice and overall the dish is seasoned pretty well.
Kayla concluded that there wasn’t anything really special about the meatballs but overall this is a solid dish and she would order it again.
Next up on the Minion Cafe menu is Otto’s Noodle Bowl. This dish features slow-roasted porchetta.
Also, notice the udon noodles.
The dish also comes with a tare egg, cilantro, roast corn, shrimp dumpling, and a tonkotsu broth.
The dish retails for $16.99.
Our Universal Parks Blogger Kayla said that the noodle bowl was more of a miss for her. She said that aesthetically, the dish is neat and appealing.
However, Kayla’s biggest gripe was that the noodles were a bit too al dente. However, she added that the pork belly was pretty flavorful but the eggs and shrimp tasted a bit “off.” She added that the shrimp wasn’t bringing the seafood flavor she was expecting and was much harder than any dumpling she’s had before.
This is one dish that Kayla said she wouldn’t be rushing to try again.
Continuing our look at Minion Cafe entrees, next up is Kevin’s Chopa Chopa Salada.
The salad features purple cabbage and arugula.
The salad is topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, edamame, crispy pork belly and plantain chips.
Kevin’s Chopa Chopa Salad retails for $15.99.
This is another dish that Kayla was on the fence about. She said the salad was basic with banana chips which aren’t very flavorful.
Kayla was hoping that the Mustard Ale Vinaigrette brought some much-needed sweetness but unfortunately, it wasn’t very flavorful.
The Chopa Chopa salad is there for those in the mood for salad. However, it’s just your basic salad and lacks anything special that could make the dish a stand-out treat.
Rounding out our look at savory dishes is Carl’s Crispy Cauliflower.
This colorful dish features crispy cauliflower florets with sweet & spicy chili sauce, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers, and edamame.
The cauliflower retails for $14.99.
This was one of our MickeyBloggers favorite dishes of the day. Kayla said the Cauliflower was cooked to perfection and tasty without being greasy. It is served with a sweet chili sauce that perfectly compliments the fried cauliflower. The same goes for rice, edamame, and pickled cucumbers. This gets a big thumbs up from us!
Now, let’s try the two specialty beverages available at the Minion Cafe!
First up is a drink called “The Antidote.”
The Antidote is big on banana flavor.
The treat is topped with yellow whipped topping and graham cracker crumbles. It retails for $6.99 and Universal said that it’s meant to taste like a banana cream pie.
Kayla said that “The Antidote” lives up to its description. She said the drink is essentially banana Fanta with whipped cream. Overall this beverage was super cute in its minion cup and gets a big thumbs up from us!
As you can see from the souvenir cup, this drink is inspired by the Purple Minions.
The drink is topped with purple whipped cream and blue pop rocks!
Kayla said that the PX-41 Punch said that this drink was good however it was maybe a little too sweet. She said that out of the two she preferred the more balanced Antidote.
Who is ready for dessert? The Minion Cafe has some absolutely adorably themed and named dessert treats.
Here’s a first look at the Fluffy Unicorn Cupcake!
This treat gets its name from Agnes’ favorite stuffed animal!
The Fluffy Unicorn Cupcake features a confetti cupcake base.
The cake is topped with vanilla and bubble gum icing.
Topped with a chocolate unicorn horn.
Our Universal Parks Blogger said that the Fluffy Unicorn Cupcake saying that the dessert is so adorable.
Kayla said that the cupcake was pretty much a basic confetti cupcake. She said that the bubblegum icing was a bit of a weird touch. She wasn’t a huge fan but could see that kids might absolutely love this treat.
This bright yellow treat is a Minion Swiss Roll.
The Minion Swiss Roll features a vanilla cake with pineapple cardamom whipped ganache.
The Swiss Roll also comes with a passion fruit “banana” with a chocolate shell.
This goodie retails for $7.99.
We LOVED this Swiss Role.
Kayla said the cake in the Swiss roll was super moist, light and fluffy.
The passion fruit and chocolate banana was a nice addition to the dessert. Kayla said that the flavors of the passion fruit really came through and the chocolate shell was delicious.
The Minion Swiss Roll definitely gets a big “YES!” from Universal Parks Blog!
Continuing our look at the Minions Cafe dessert menu is Otto’s Pet Rock
This edible pet rock is made of a peanut butter mousse.
Inside you’ll find strawberry jelly and crushed peanuts.
Also inside you’ll find banana cake.
The shell is made of chocolate and sandwich cookie crumbs adorn the outside.
Again, this is another Minion Cafe treat that our bloggers loved. It really brings the flavors of a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
Kayla said that the most prominent flavor was the peanut butter mousse which pairs perfectly with the strawberry Jelly.
The chocolate shell gives the treat a bit of a crunch.
Otto’s Pet Rock retails for $8.99 and comes recommended!
Last, but certainly not least is Bob’s Teddy Bear Chocolate Cream Puff.
This treat is simple but adorable.
The chocolate cream puff is filled with a chocolate whipped ganache.
The treat retails for $6.99.
Though the presentation was absolutely adorable, this treat was a bit of a letdown. The cream puff was really dry and the ganache tasted too much like icing.
This dessert provides a great photo op but for dessert give it a miss, especially when there are so many other delicious treats on the dessert menu!
