A Popular Restaurant at Universal Studios Florida Has Closed for Refurbishment
We sincerely hope you’re not in the mood for burgers and fries amidst vinyl and neon lights… as a classic restaurant at Universal Studios Florida has just closed for refurbishment!
Yup, we are, of course, talking about Mel’s Drive-In, located over in the Hollywood area of the park.
This popular quick service location has now closed for refurbishment, as you can see from this big red “Set Enhancements in Progress” sign parked right outside the door!
This sad, albeit temporary, closure will no doubt come as a bit of a disappointment to guests, especially with the anticipation of high crowd levels incoming for the action-packed summer season at the Universal resort.
When it’s open, Mel’s Drive-In serves up a classic, all-American menu of burgers, sandwiches, fries, shakes, and floats. It’s usually open for lunch and dinner services, and it’s mobile ordering option makes it a quick and reliable stop for on-the-go guests to grab a bite to eat.
Now the place is closed for refurbishment, it’s looking like guests will be swapping their burgers for bananas, and heading over to the newly-opened Minions Cafe for their grub!
Unfortunately, no time frame has been given for when we’ll see Mel’s Drive-In drive back in and reopen to guests. From the outside, we can’t see any particular activity going on inside the cafe, and we wouldn’t want to speculate on the scope of the refurbishment, either.

Until then, the jukebox may have stopped for the time being, but at least guests can still grab some pretty cool photos of the smart cars parked outside Mel’s restaurant. We just hope to be able to visit back for food soon!
