Universal Orlando Resort Wait Times for February 2022
NBCUniversal and Comcast executives sounded euphoric about the latest earnings report. Universal Studios theme parks earned more money than ever before during the most recent quarter.
That revenue couldn’t have happened without massive crowds at the parks. Did these huge gains in attendance lead to longer lines? Let’s examine the attraction wait times at Universal Orlando Resort to decide for sure.
Universal Studios Florida – The Big Three
First, let’s start with the caveat that last month’s totals included the holiday season. That’s the time when theme parks gain the most guests throughout the annual calendar.
For this reason, the data should appear somewhat skewed. Theoretically, this month’s wait times won’t be as sizable since January proves less popular than December. That historical fact about tourist behavior gets counterbalances by the knowledge that the parks didn’t slow down as much in January.
People were cooped up inside for the body of two years. We want to travel! That goes double for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, one of the best entertainment options on the East Coast!
Also, we must factor in something unique. Ordinarily, Universal Studios Florida features a big three, the attractions that demand the most attention.
However, one of those three is Revenge of the Mummy, which just closed for a prolonged refurbishment. It likely won’t return until August.
So, we’re got two attractions at Universal Studios Florida that claim larger crowds than everything else.Obviously, one of them is Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which was the most popular ride at Wizarding World for several years.
Today, the attraction must settle for second, but it still averaged a wait of 45 minutes for the past month. That’s a reduction of 20 minutes from last time.
Similarly, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit! required 35 minutes of line time. That’s a drop of 20 minutes.
We can already tell that the parks aren’t as full as they were over the holidays…which isn’t much of a surprise.
Universal Studios Florida – Everything Else
Literally every other attraction at Universal Studios Florida came with a wait off less than 30 minutes. I’m splitting hairs on a couple of these, though. To wit, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem averaged a 29-minute wait. That’s down 11 minutes from last time.
If you can tell the difference between a 30-minute wait and a 29-minute one, I’m very impressed.
Also, the Hogwarts Express tied Minion Mayhem with a 29-minute wait. That’s down only four minutes from last month.
The catch here is that Hogwarts Express suffered an outage of several days toward the end of January. If not for that time offline, the average wait likely would have dropped even more, as that’s the off-season at the park.
The rest of Universal Studios Florida’s rides came with waits of 20 minutes or less. Here’s the list:
- E.T. Adventure – 20 minutes, no change
- MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack! – 20 minutes, down 8
- Transformers the Ride 3D – 18 minutes, down 17 (!)
- The Simpsons Ride – 16 minutes, down 11
- Fast & Furious – Supercharged – 14 minutes, down 4
- Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – 13 minutes, down 4
- Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster – 12 minutes, up 2
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon – 8 minutes, down 6
Overall, guests waited an average of 22 minutes to ride stuff at Universal Studios Florida.
Also, no matter how much Universal employees beg, guests just won’t ride Fast & Furious or Jimmy Fallon. The vitriol for these attractions almost takes my breath away.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure – The Alphas
I mentioned last time that four attractions at Islands of Adventure usually require longer waits than the rest. The essential word there is usually because we have some surprises this time…but not at the top.
As always, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure dominated. It’s the most popular ride at Universal Orlando Resort right now…and by a lot.
For the past month, the roller coaster averaged a wait of 62 minutes, down 28 from last time. Honestly, when you can ride this after an hour, you’ve done pretty well. I still remember when it was a five-hour wait at a minimum.
The surprise comes in second place, where another Harry Potter attraction has snuck up the list. You’re probably guessing the wrong one, though.
Flight of the Hippogriff, the junior coaster, came with a wait of 52 minutes. Those are some extremely patient parents who waited nearly an hour for a roller coaster Maggie Simpson would find quite dull.
The Hippogriff ride increased its wait by 18 minutes and has been even worse over the past 10 days. I cannot explain this one other than its throughput isn’t great.
The third-longest wait at Islands of Adventure goes to the Jurassic World VelociCoaster, which averaged 40 minutes. That’s a drop of 10 minutes.
The fourth “alpha” this month was Pteranodon Flyers, another children’s ride that came with a 34-minute wait. That’s down five minutes from last time.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure – Everything Else
Here are the other attraction wait times at Islands of Adventure for the past month:
- The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! – 32 minutes, down 3
- The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man – 28 minutes, down 17
- Skull Island – Reign of Kong – 28 minutes, down 12
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster – 27 minutes, down 5
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – 25 minutes, down 12
- Hogwarts Express (Hogsmeade) – 24 minutes, down 4
- Jurassic Park River Adventure – 17 minutes, down 1
- Doctor Doom’s Fearfall – 13 minutes, down 2
- The Cat in the Hat – 10 minutes, no change
- Storm Force Accelatron – 8 minutes, up 2
- One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish – 7 minutes, down 7
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges – 6 minutes, up 1
Overall, guests waited an average of 25 minutes for Islands of Adventures attractions, down five minutes from last month.
