Photo Update: Progress on Universal’s Jurassic Park Coaster
Universal has yet to officially announce it’s new coaster in the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure, but there is definitely something taking shape there. Universal Parks Blog was in Universal Parks today and took some first-hand pictures of the coaster which is well underway.
The rumored coaster in the Jurassic Park section of the park, is slated to be the most intense in Universal history. It is expected to be a mulit-launch coaster that reaches almost 70mph with multiple inversions. Although, no name has even been hinted at for the coaster, most people believe it will be called “Velocicoaster”.
The coaster is located in front of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center and takes the entire area of the Triceratops encounter. The theming is very similar to Jurassic World with gray concrete walls, protruding rocks and fencing. The theming makes you wonder if the area will look more like Jurassic World once the coaster is completed.
The parks shutdown in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but construction on the coaster continued during the shut down. Originally, it was expected to open in 2020, but because of delays it will most likely be next year before it is completed.
Universal Parks Orlando opened to the public on June 5th with social distancing and safety guidelines in place. Although park capacity has been kept low because of these guidelines, guests seem to be visiting in spite of the requirement to wear a mask on rides.
Keep watching Universal Parks Blog for more updates as the Jurassic Park Coaster continues construction.
