BREAKING NEWS: Florida Announces That Effective Immediately Alcohol Consumption At Bars Is Suspended
In a move that is sure to have a massive impact on Universal Resort Orlando, the announcement was just made that the state of Florida is suspending the consumption of alcohol at bars throughout the state.
The news, which was released by Halsey Beshears secretary of the state’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation on Twitter quickly caused a flurry of activity as businesses, bartenders and patrons scramble to make sense of this new restriction.
The news came on the tail end of the states alarming announcement that there have been nearly 9,000 newly reported coronavirus cases in the state which is a new record for daily increases. Health experts have advised that cases are increasing rapidly amongst young adults. The danger lies in the fact that they could then pass the illness on to more vulnerable adults.
At the moment, doctors and hospitals are saying that they have enough beds to accommodate those struggling with the virus but concern is mounting over the rapid increase in new cases and what will happen should this trend continue.
Bars have been an ongoing concern in the state. Earlier this week, Governor Ron DeSantis warned owners that they risk losing their alcohol license if they don’t keep their establishments to 50% capacity. As Fox35 tells us, Knight’s Pub in Orlando had its license suspended after 13 employees and 28 customers tested positive for the virus.
Here’s the official tweet from Beshears:
Effective immediately, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation is suspending on premises consumption of alcohol at bars statewide.

With the cases in the state of Florida at a record-breaking high, many are waiting to see if DeSantis will back down his statement earlier in the week saying that he WILL NOT roll back a phased reopening of the state. Nor will he endorse a mandatory face-mask mandate across the state
As of going to print we here at UniversalParksBlog aren’t quite sure what the alcohol mandate means for business. Governor DeSantis is expected to give a press conference this afternoon where we expect to hear more!
