The Latest Construction, Closures, & Openings at Universal Studios Florida
Universal Studios Florida is a park filled with thrilling rides, immersive lands, and some really fun characters, among other things. A lot is going on at the park, so you know we have to stop by to check everything out!
We go to Universal Orlando regularly to check for new things, updates, closures, and more. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what’s going on around Universal Studios.
Universal Construction Updates
Entrance Area
When we first arrived at the park, we noticed that a lot of work was being done on this building to the right of the entrance.
There are walls up…
…and a bunch of workers up on the roof!
We also spotted this new snack stand at the entrance!
It’s not open yet, but it looks like it’s getting ready.
We’ll keep you updated on what it turns out to be.
Minion Land
Construction is also being done on the outside of Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem.
There is a bunch of scrims up on the front of the building at the entrance to the attraction.
There are also construction walls up around the outside.
But, the ride is still running!
Minions Cafe is being built right now across from the ride, and there are a bunch of blue construction walls up.
As you can see, there is a bunch of scaffolding behind the walls.
This blocked-off area is pretty large.
You can see a bunch of minions all over the blue walls!
Universal announced back in May 2022 that the Universal Classic Monsters Cafe was permanently closing to make way for the Minions Cafe at this location.
It looks pretty much the same as the last time we visited a couple of weeks ago!
There are also some blue walls across the street. This probably isn’t for the cafe, so we’ll keep an eye out for what’s going on.
New York
At the open stands, we noticed that some electronic menu boards have been installed.
This snack stand is operational, it just wasn’t open early this morning when we went by.
You can see on the menu there are things like a calzone, pizza, salads, and more.
Some set enhancements are happening over in this part of the park where you can see a fake New York skyline!
We’re not sure what exactly is happening, but there are definitely changes being made to this facade.
Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone
Over at E.T., there is construction being done near the entrance of the ride.
In fact, the entrance for the ride has been moved to over here!
There are construction walls up all around the gift shop that you exit into from the ride.
The ride is still running though.
As you can see, the walls extend out pretty far, too!
So, since you can’t visit the store at the end of the ride, E.T. merchandise has been moved to these nearby kiosks.
At these, you’ll find things like backpacks…
…plushes…
…T-shirts…
…and more.
Lagoon
We also noticed some work being done on the Lagoon show!
We found out recently that the former nighttime show here, Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration, was ending to make room for a new show.
It looks like work is being done to prepare for that show!
We’ll let you know more details when they’re announced.
Hollywood
The Brown Derby Hat Shop has reopened!
In this store, you’ll find a variety of Universal merchandise like Hello Kitty, E.T., Jurassic Park, Minions, and more.
The Mardi Gras tribute store is officially closed. The store was only open for the Mardi Gras celebration that happened until a couple of weeks ago in the park.
Stay tuned for more Universal news and updates!
