Super Nintendo World Is Coming Soon
Universal Studios Hollywood just gave us all the news we have desperately wanted.
We now know when Super Nintendo World is debuting, and we have more information about its signature attraction.
Read on to learn about the updates coming to Universal Studios Hollywood.
ETA: Early 2023
Universal executives have faced an ongoing struggle with Super Nintendo World.
The team announced this project as one of three upcoming Super Nintendo World themed lands around the world.
Everyone always knew that the first of these locations would open at Universal Studios Japan.
However, initial plans called for the Universal Studios Hollywood location to debut relatively soon afterward.
Then, the pandemic occurred and blew up all those plans. In Japan, Super Nintendo World experienced several delays before eventually opening.
That version of the themed land finally arrived in March 2021, roughly 15 months ago.
In a perfect world, we’d already have an American version of Super Nintendo World. But unfortunately, Universal Studios Hollywood suffered innumerable construction delays.
To the park’s credit, it has studiously worked on construction despite facing seemingly impossible odds.
Now, we’re all ready to experience the benefits of their hard labor. Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that Super Nintendo World will debut in early 2023.
Park officials didn’t provide an exact date, but the timeline appears to match the one at Universal Studios Japan.
As a reminder, that park offered a tiered approach to Super Nintendo World’s opening.
Annual passholders gained access to the new themed land on February 4th, 2021. Six weeks later, everyone else could visit.
So, history will remember March 18th, 2021, as the official opening date for Super Nintendo World. For this reason, I fully expect Universal Studios Hollywood to introduce its version of Super Nintendo World in March of 2023.
However, annual passholders may get a sneak preview as early as Valentine’s Day. That’s entirely speculation on my part, but it fits the timeline.
At worst, Super Nintendo World should arrive in time for the summer theme park season. So you can safely plan your 2023 vacation around that information.
More about Construction
Here’s the best tweet you’ll read today:

The exciting part is that Universal Studios Hollywood pulled back the curtain a bit more than expected. It also revealed more about what’s coming to the park.
Most of what Universal said fits nicely with previous information. Universal Studios fans have chronicled the construction since the beginning.
In fact, here’s a park video that shows the progress through March of 2021:
Contrast that with a video from this past week:

The progress is remarkable, and we still have another eight or nine months to go!
Previous reports have indicated that Universal Studios doesn’t plan to reinvent the wheel here.
Universal Studios Singapore and Universal Studios Hollywood will mirror the look and style of the existing Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan.
Nobody’s quite as confident about the themed land coming to Universal’s Epic Universe. It’ll be a park anchor rather than an expansion.
Still, we already have a strong idea about the look and feel of the Super Nintendo World coming to Universal Studios Hollywood.
This place will share 90 percent of the look and feel of the Japanese version. For this reason, we can examine the construction videos and recognize structures.
Of course, Universal also seeks to monetize the new themed land. So, we’re about to witness the Summer of Nintendo at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Yes, I mean this summer, not 2023. However, park officials have announced that new Super Nintendo World merchandise will arrive at the park soon.
That’s the same approach that Universal Studios Japan took, and it proved wildly successful.
You may recall that the Hollywood park already opened this:
Over the next few months, this store will add even more exclusive merchandise. So you’ll want to keep checking back here.
About the Main Ride
Universal will alter some aspects of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood.
For example, its version of Mario Kart will have a different name and modified theme.
In Japan, guests attempt to achieve high scores on Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, which looks like this:
At Universal Studios Hollywood, tourists will experience Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge instead. The park released this promotional video:
Obviously, the attraction will employ the same ride mechanics as its Japanese predecessor.
However, I’m expecting modifications that make it feel like a different level of the same video game. That would fit thematically with the story, right?
For its part, Universal has described Bowser’s Challenge as “one of the world’s largest, most interactive rides.”
By the way, if you’re wondering, Universal Studios Hollywood WILL use Power-Up Bands.
So, guests will compete for the highest score on the ride, and the Power-Up Bands will play a factor in the scoring.
Also, the bands will interact with various parts of Super Nintendo World, allowing guests to collect coins and power-ups during their visit.
Everything about Super Nintendo World sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? 2023 will be a historic year at Universal Studios Hollywood!
