Universal Studios Hollywood Preps For Opening of Super Nintendo World on February 17
Mario, Luigi and co are Hollywood-bound with the news that Super Nintendo World will be opening at Universal Studios Hollywood on February 17, 2023.
Universal Studios has opened it’s doors to the media, who are taking a first look inside the new land inspired by one of the most popular video game franchises in history. The new Super Nintendo World coming to West Coast Universal will feature an eatery, gift shop, character meet and greets and headlining attraction “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.”
According to a recent piece that appeared in Variety, Super Nintendo World is located next to the Transformers ride. Guests enter through a green pipe just like in the game. You’ll then find yourself inside Princess Peach’s Castle where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped inside the beloved video game world of Super Mario Bros complete with POW blocks, Pokeys and even villains from Thwomps to Goombas.
The lands is brought to life by small details. For instance, visitors to Super Nintendo World that are listening carefully make hear “Super Mario Sunshine” playing in the background. The queue for Bowser’s Challenge is also brimming with Yoshi-style animation details!
Super Nintendo Land features four interactive games for guests to enjoy that ultimately lead to a boss fight with Bowser Jr. According to Variety, the games have guests doing fun challenges like hitting a POW block that causes a Koopa shell to fly up a warp pipe. In another, guests are challenged to disable alarms before they go off and wake a Piranha Plant .
We’re told that the boss battle itself is pretty epic. The player’s silhouette is projected on an LED screen. You must dodge Bom-omb and throw fireballs. The goal is to complete the round and reclaim Princess Peach’s golden mushroom.
Guests can purchase a Power-Up Band which is designed to sync with the Universal Studios Hollywood app. Here you can keep track of the game points you earned during your visit.
These can be transferred to your gaming consoles via Amiibo. You can earn more points by riding “Bowser’s Challenge,” playing the games described above and hitting the Power-Up Band at designated locations throughout Super Nintendo World!
No detail has been spared when it comes to the riders’ queue for “Bowser’s Challenge.” Be on the lookout for details like the giant golden Bowser statues and the books he’s reading with titles like “The Art of Balloon Battle.”
The ride itself transports guests into the world of Mario Kart. You’ll use augmented reality googles as you navigate through cloudtop scenes, an underwater course and more. Visitors play on Team Mario and its up to you to beat Browser and win the Golden Cup.
The ride’s exit queue deposits guests in the 1-UP Factory where you’ll find Mario merchandise and plush toys.
If you’ve worked up a hunger during all this excitement then you can head to the Toadstool Cafe. Menu items include Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Super Mushroom Soup, Piranha Plant Caprese, Mario Bacon Cheeseburger, Luigi Pesto Chicken Burger, ?-Blog Tiramisu and the Princess Peach Cupcake.
