PHOTOS: Updated Look at Halloween Horror Nights Progress at Universal Orlando
It’s already mid-August (I know, the year is flying by!) which means that the fall season is fast approaching. It might still feel like summer in Florida, but the Universal theme parks are preparing for Halloween!
Halloween Horror Nights kicks off in the beginning of September on select nights in Universal Studios Florida. This is a separately ticketed event filled with all kinds of horror (but like, the fun kind!).
We recently checked out how things are going in the park so let’s take a look at what’s been set up for the event!
Scare Zones
A lot of the scare zones have started to go up at Universal Studios! First up, we spotted Dr. Oddfellow’s Collection of Horror near the front of the park.
In this scare zone, Dr. Oddfellow will lure you into Halloween Horror Nights with a promise of immortality.
Universal says that as “he lifts the veil on all the horrors to come, you’ll soon realize you may not even survive the night.”
Well, hopefully you survive long enough to check out the other stuff in the park!
Next, we saw the Dark Zodiac scare zone in the Hollywood part of the park.
This scare zone also has a connection to Dr. Oddfellow.
The doctor has apparently entered a dark dimension to harness the power of the Zodiac and live forever.
Universal says he “twists the signs into malevolent beings who foretell your doom. As his star rises, yours falls.” For all the astrology people out there, this actually might be really cool!
The Vamp ’69: Summer of Blood scare zone is also up in the New York section!
This is another version of the other Vamp scare zones we’ve seen themed to different decades in this part of the park.
The premise is that “at a 60s music fest in a small New York town, you’ll jam to popular bands with fellow concert-goers until Dr. Oddfellow unleashes vicious vampires on the audience. They’re out for your blood.”
Well, at least it’s the most colorful and upbeat of the scare zones!
We can’t wait to see what these vampires look like — it’ll be like Woodstock, but with fangs.
The Jungle of Doom: Expedition Horror scare zone is coming together as well.
Over here, it’s said that Dr. Oddfellow ventured deep into the darkest jungle in the 1920s…
…performing horrific experiments on nature.
Now, his monstrous creations are “running amok and are coming after you.”
As you can see, there are some creatures lurking up in the trees!
Shipyard 32: Horrors Unhinged scare zone is located over near Pacific Wharf.
This is set in a 1940s San Francisco shipping yard full of mysterious crates and cages bearing Dr. Oddfellow’s symbol.
Universal says to beware, as “his nightmarish oddities have now escaped, spreading fear and chaos in their wake.”
What kind of oddities will they be? We’ll have to wait and see!
Finally, we saw the start of the set up for The Last of Us, which is actually going to be a haunted house at this year’s event.
This is a new house at this year’s event and is based off of The Last of Us video game (which was also recently turned into a TV show).
Universal says that “You and your squad will encounter the haunting and overgrown world of Naughty Dog’s video game in a brand-new, terrifying way, as you make your way through an abandoned Pittsburgh.”
“Join Joel and Ellie, and don’t make a sound if you want to survive Clickers, Hunters and more. No matter what, keep finding something to fight for.”
Sounds exciting!
Food Booths & Bars
A lot of the food booths have gone up in the park as well. We spotted several in the front of the park between Minion Land and the start of New York.
We’ve got this colorful one in front of Rip Ride Rock-It…
…and these two across the street.
We’ve also got these two in the New York section which definitely look like they are themed the same.
This other booth is hiding back in the streets!
There is also a white tent up that’s closed off right now.
Near San Francisco we’ve got this other colorful booth that looks like it says “wanna play?” on the front — scary!
There’s another booth that’s behind the construction walls.
There are barriers and other scaffolding up near Pacific Wharf that are being set up for the bars that will be at the event.
Here’s another look.
There are some speakers up here too, so prepare for either music or spooky sounds (or maybe both!).
A castle-style food booth is also over in this area.
Another bar is being set up over here closer to the Hollywood section of the park.
There’s also a Universal Catering Co. food truck blocked off right now.
In the Hollywood section, we’ve got this food booth which looks to be themed to Day of the Dead.
Here’s another look at the area.
